Coexisting with Critters

Keep in Mind

  • Critters were here first and increasing development is pushing animals out of their homes, so now they are learning to live in more urban environment.

  • Critters are familiar with the area they grew up in. They know the roads and the food/water sources. Humane exclusion allows an animal to stay in the area/neighborhood they know, just not in your specific space. Trapping is not the answer and opens up a niche for another animal to move in. Please check out our 'Found a Critter' page to find out how to humanely get a specific critter to move on.

What can you do to support the wildlife in your community?

What are you seeing during certain months of the year?

February - skunks are looking for love and crossing lots of roads during that time. Slow down at night.

February - In Central Texas, squirrels and opossums are the first to start having babies in early February. They have two sets of babies, the second litter usually in August.

April - Songbirds start laying their eggs

May - Deer giving birth to fawns.

Summer - Turtles are laying eggs, so more them of are leaving the water and crossing roads. Allow them to continue in the direction they are headed.

Fall - Fawns are maturing and following their mom farther distances. They take more time to cross roads, so please slow down.

Winter - the best time to trim trees and mow high grass is when birds, bunnies, and squirrels are not having babies. Trim in the winter before they start making their nests.
