Helpful or Harmful?
There are several practices we strongly recommend you stop/avoid doing because they can be harmful to wildlife in your community.
-
Do not put out poison. Poisoning an animal is a slow and painful death. Additionally, that poisoned animal can travel up the food chain and affect a variety of other animals.
-
The National Park Service outlines how rodenticide affects all wildlife.

-
Do not use glue traps. Glue traps do not kill an animal, they are a slow, painful death. While they may be meant for one animal, a variety of animals can get caught on them.

Trapping is not the answer. When you set a trap, you never know what you will end up trapping. Then what do you do when you trap a critter? Relocating an animal to an area it is unfamiliar with can lead to the animal's death - they will not know the food sources or the roads and will most likely not be successful. Trapping also opens up a niche for another critter to move in, and then you have not solved the problem. If you are having an issue with a critter, visit our 'Found a Critter' page for humane solutions. If those do not work, please give us a call and we will try to find a solution beneficial to you and the critter.

Do not feed wild animals. They are able to find their own food, but will come to depend on what you put out. This will cause overpopulation and will have devastating affects if you move or can no longer feed them.
