Mice/Rats

mouse2 copy.jpg

Background

There are dozens of mouse and rat species in Central Texas. Rodents are an integral part of the ecosystem because they are a major source of food to larger predators and also play a role in seed dispersal and fertilizer.

Fun Facts

  • Rodents' teeth never stop growing.

  • Mice are impressive jumpers and can run up to 8 mph!

Mouse/Rat Concerns

These critters can be considered pests, but please do not poison them because that poison can travel up the food chain. Avoid glue traps because they are inhumane and cause animal suffering.

There are humane traps to relocate rodents and certain smells that will encourage rodents to move on.
