Snakes

Background

There are a variety of snake species native to Central Texas, the most common being the Texas rat snake. Please do not kill a snake just because it is a snake. Most (but not all) are harmless and will leave if you give them time and space. Snakes are very important in our ecosystem and serve as both predators for rodents and prey for larger species.

Tomlinson's Feed has a great page about local snakes in Central Texas.

Snake Concerns

If you are unsure what type of snake you have, Central Texas Snake ID has a very responsive Facebook page where you can post a picture.

If you have an unwanted snake in your yard, the best thing you can do is give the snake space to move on. Please do not kill a snake just because it is a snake - they play a very important role in our ecosystem.
